2023 Jiangxi Open Nanchang WTA Entry List - Haddad Maia, Fernandez, Kudermetova & more

| by Nurein Ahmed

The 2023 Jiangxi Open is the penultimate WTA event being staged in China this season and will be played in the extensively industrialized city of Nanchang from October 16th through 22nd.

The event was incepted in 2014, first as part of the 125K series before it was upgraded into a fully-fledged Tour-level tournament two years later. Chinese tennis players have profited big time, winning three of the four stagings since.

Sweden's Rebecca Peterson was the sole foreigner to lift the trophy in Nanchang back in 2019, when she demolished Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-0. The initial entry list for the fifth edition of this WTA 250 event has been released and none of the players who contested the final four years ago will return.

It is still such a strong lineup for a 250-level. As many as three Top 20 players are part of the fold. These are the Russian duo of Liudmila Samsonova and Veronika Kudermetova. Brazilian lefty Beatriz Haddad Maia is expected to recover from a freak accident in Guadalajara and join them - all of whom are pursuing their first WTA title of 2023.

In-form Pole Magda Linette will be looking to keep up her recent upturn in form on Chinese soil when she returns to Nanchang for a third time. Czech pair Marie Bouzkova and Linda Noskova will also join this highly competitive field.

China's No. 2 Lin Zhu has won two career titles on Asian territory, but none of those have been on home soil. This would be a good chance to add to her trophy collection. Lin will ensemble in Nanchang will fellow compatriots Xinyu Wang and Xiyu Wang.

Clay court specialists Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Mayar Sheriff are also part of the 32-woman field and will be looking to translate success on clay to hard courts. Players who have been Top 50 mainstays this year such as Anna Blinkova and Marta Kostyuk will attempt to make the splash.
