Wang Xinyu is a Chinese professional tennis player who was born on September 26, 2001 in Shenzhen, China. Born to the former head coach of the Shenzhen tennis team as well as a former basketball player, she was destined for big things in sport.

Once Wang started showing interest in and talent for tennis, both parents devoted their lives to helping her achieve her dreams on the tennis court right from the age of five years old. After a stellar junior career which saw her reach the Australian Open and Wimbledon semifinals in 2018, as well as winning the doubles events at those same tournaments in the same year, she was ready to try out her luck on the main tour.

Making her fully-fledged Grand Slam debut that same year at the Australian Open, she lost in the first round, but this result set her up nicely to continue making inroads into the main WTA Tour. Wanting to play as regularly as possible and continue on the same line of progress, she started dabbling in the doubles main tour as well.

She managed to set up her first WTA title in doubles in 2019 when she won the Jiangxi International Open with partner Zhu Lin. The following years offered her more opportunities to progress on both sides of her game, with her getting her first singles win at Grand Slam level in 2022 before becoming a Grand Slam champion for the first time in her career at the 2023 French Open in the women’s doubles.

Still waiting for her maiden WTA trophy in singles, she has managed to break into the Top 35, all the while juggling her doubles game, in which she has made it to the Top 20.
