Nanchang International Tennis Center hosts the Jiangxi Open, which takes place in October each season. Originally, the Jiangxi Open was a WTA 125K level tournament. However, the competition was promoted in 2016 to become an international-level event.
Since 2016, the tournament has retained its WTA 250 status. In addition, the Jiangxi Open is linked to the WTA 1000-level event, the China Open. Some of the leading Chinese players from this event can earn a wildcard entry into the China Open each year.
The competition had years of growth and success between 2014 and 2020. However, the event was postponed for three consecutive years between 2020 and 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic and the suspension of professional tennis in China led to a hiatus of the Jiangxi Open.
In 2023, the tournament returned to Nanchang. Due to its improving reputation and status within tennis, the Jiangxi Open attracts top players each year. In its early editions, Chinese players dominated the competition. Four of the five opening tournaments were won by Chinese players, with Peng Shuai, Duan Yingying, and Wang Qiang lifting the title.
More recently, players from other nations have won the Jiangxi Open. In 2019, Rebecca Peterson defeated Elena Rybakina in straight sets in the final. Also, the 2023 final saw two Czech players face off in the final as Katerina Siniakova defeated Marie Bouzkova in an epic three-set clash.
Alongside the 32-player singles draw, a doubles competition featuring 16 teams takes place. Similar to the early editions of the Jiangxi Open singles draw, Chinese doubles pairs have achieved unrivaled success at the event. Jiang Xinyu and Tang Qianhui achieved the most success in the doubles tournament, as they won the competition twice in 2017 and 2018.
