Elisabetta Cocciaretto is an Italian professional tennis player who was born on January 25, 2001, in Ancona, Italy. Introduced to the sport by her parents aged just 6, the Italian immediately fell in love with the sport, progressing through youth categories.

She translated this talent into junior success, with her reaching the semifinal of the girls’ tournament at the Australian Open in 2018. Despite the heartbreak of losing in the latter stages of a junior Grand Slam at a young age, she did not let this put her off.

She made her main draw WTA debut the following season after being given a wildcard into her home WTA 1000 event - the Italian Open in Rome. Losing in the first round to Amanda Anisimova, this taste of the big stage gave her a burning desire to search for more inroads into the elite of the women’s sport.

This desire was then translated into success around 6 months later, with Cocciaretto making her Grand Slam debut at the 2020 Australian Open after coming through a tough qualifying campaign.

Affected and therefore not able to play for months due to COVID-19, she came back stronger than ever in 2022, getting her first Grand Slam win on the board at Wimbledon, seeing off 22nd seed Martina Trevisan.

All the while edging her way into a solid ranking spot on the WTA Tour, the Italian was ready to take her tennis to the next level in 2023. Despite losing her first WTA final at the 2023 Hobart International, she did not let that dissuade her, and she sailed to her maiden title just a couple of months later at the San Luis Potosi Open in Mexico.

This stellar run of form saw her reach her break into the world's Top 30, becoming the highest-ranked Italian female in the rankings at that time. In 2024, she had a dip in form, which meant she dropped out of the Top 50.
