The 2025 Iasi Open on clay will run from July 14th to 20th during the week after Wimbledon, and the
entry list for the tournament has been unveiled.
Last year's Iasi Open was the first time it had been played as a
WTA 250 event. Some of the players in the 2024 draw used the Romanian event as preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The tournament in Iasi will always be special to Mirra Andreeva.
She won her first WTA title at last year's iteration after
Elina Avanesyan retired with a physical issue in the deciding set of the final after a brutal battle.
Andreeva has since secured bigger titles
at the 2025 Dubai Championships and the 2025 Indian Wells Open. However, the first title is always special for players, especially since it made the then-17-year-old Andreeva one of the WTA's youngest maiden titlists.
The 2025 Iasi Open does not include any players as high-profile or highly ranked as Andreeva. However, two former Grand Slam semifinalists and some good clay court players are still on the entry lists.
Maria Sakkari undoubtedly hopes to find some inspiration in Romania. The Greek has mostly endured a challenging time since
winning her sole WTA 1000 title at the Guadalara Open in September 2023.
She had an impressive run to the 2024 Indian Wells Open, but that was a rare high during a difficult period. Sakkari also ended her 2024 season early because of a shoulder injury, and finding momentum after that type of ailment is not easy.
The 2021 French Open semifinalist at least seems in a better place since reuniting with her former long-term coach, Tom Hill. He coached her for many years until February 2024, and the two share a close bond.
Although everyone on the entry list deserves respect, this year's Iasi Open is undoubtedly one of Sakkari's best chances of winning a title or at least reaching a final. She will hope to grasp the opportunity with both hands.
Alycia Parks has not enjoyed much clay court success, with none of her WTA Tour or Challenger finals coming on the surface. The American's presence on the entry list in Iasi means she believes that changing those fortunes is possible.
Last year's runner-up Avanesyan hopes to go one step further this year. She has twice been to the fourth round of the French Open and plays her best tennis on clay, making her one of the favorites to win the title.
Former US Open semifinalist
Anastasija Sevastova is in the entry list with a protected ranking. The 35-year-old has retired from the sport twice before returning. She defeated Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at the 2025 Madrid Open.
Jaqueline Cristian always presents a challenge for opponents on clay. She reached the final of last month's 2025 Morocco Open in Rabat and was competitive against Iga Swiatek in the third round of this year's Roland Garros.
Ann Li,
Lucia Bronzetti,
Nuria Parrizas Diaz, and
Elisabetta Cocciaretto are some of the other players on the 2025 Iasi Open entry list.
