Lucia Bronzetti is an Italian professional tennis player who was born on December 10, 1998, in Rimini, Italy. Starting tennis at the age of 10, Bronzetti was a keen player in the Italian youth leagues. This later translated itself to representing her country at the youth level before getting prepped to forge a career on the WTA Tour.
After a few years spent on the ITF Tour, it was only a matter of time before the Italian made her WTA Tour debut. It came at the 2021 Lausanne Open where, after coming through the qualifying, she beat Tess Sugnaux in the first round for her maiden win at the WTA level before going on to reach the quarter-final, losing to number 1 seed Tamara Zidansek.
This type of performance gave her momentum to kick on and build in 2022. She started strongly, making her Grand Slam debut at the 2022 Australian Open. After winning three qualifying matches to get the main draw, she carried on that streak, beating Varvara Gracheva in the opening round.
It was the home favorite and eventual winner, Ashleigh Barty, who ended up eliminating her from the competition. More positive results ensued, with a fourth-round appearance at the WTA 1000 level for the first time before going on to reach her first WTA semifinal at the Morocco Open in Rabat.
These results preceded her stand-out one, which came later that season at the Palermo Open, where she went on an outstanding run that took her all the way to the final, only losing to sixth seed Irina-Camelia Begu in what was her first WTA final.
Recently promoted to the world’s top 50, Bronzetti pushed on, reaching another final at the Morocco Open in Rabat. This time, she came out the victor over Julia Grabher to claim her first WTA singles title. Later that season, she went on to reach the third round of the US Open – her best result at a Grand Slam.
