Nuria Parrizas Diaz is a Spanish professional tennis player who was born on July 15, 1991, in Granada, Spain. Starting out on the Spanish clay at the tender age of 6 years old, she trained in her hometown until 14, when she was scouted for the Andalusian Tennis Federation.
On the ITF tour since 2006, it took the Spaniard a while to migrate onto the WTA Tour, with her staying at ITF until 2021. She had her first taste of a WTA singles main draw in 2021 at the Bogota Open in Colombia.
After coming through the grueling qualifying competition, she got some big wins in the early rounds, beating Cristina Bucsa in straight sets to get her first tour-level win before overcoming number 3 seed Arantxa Rus in three tough sets. This took her to the quarters before she bowed out to Viktoriya Tomova.
This opened the proverbial floodgates for the Spaniard, with her qualifying for further WTA tournaments later in the season, as well as being involved in the deep rounds of the Grand Slam qualifying tournaments. 2021 also brought her first taste of silverware on the WTA Tour, albeit at 125 Challenger level. She topped off a stellar week in Bastad with a win over number 7 Olga Govortsova, giving her a real sense of progress.
Later that same season, and as proof of how far she had come, she made her debut at the Grand Slam level at the US Open. Despite losing in the first round, she lost in three sets after having come through three wins in qualifying.
2021 brought another WTA 125-level trophy for her, this time in Columbus. With the WTA doors well and truly open for her now, Parrizas Diaz was enjoying life amongst the elite. Buoyed by her newfound progress, the Spaniard recorded some career-best results in 2022, too.
Reaching her best result at a Grand Slam (third round at the Australian Open) started her year off in the best possible way. Just a couple of months later, she broke into the world's Top 45 in the WTA Rankings proving to everyone her worth.
