Gauff & Sabalenka Chase Swiatek As Badosa Rejoins Top 50 In Latest WTA Rankings

The focus of attention in the past two weeks has been the Olympic Games, and the WTA rankings reflected minor changes at the top end because no points were awarded in that competition.

Although Iga Swiatek's lead at the top has been reduced marginally, she remains the only player who has crossed the 11,000-point mark this season. The Pole is not playing at the Canadian Open after winning a bronze medal at the Olympic Games.

Coco Gauff will be the top seed in Toronto, while Aryna Sabalenka will be the second seed. Both women will attempt to chase Swiatek, but they will be wary of the number of points they must defend in the summer hard-court swing, as it is a lot more than the 23-year-old.

Elena Rybakina keeps her spot in fourth place but won't be able to improve on that this week. She withdrew from Canada because of health issues. Jasmine Paolini (5th) and Qinwen Zheng (7th) won't compete in Toronto after their exploits in Paris.

Paolini won a gold medal in doubles with countrywoman Sara Errani, while Zheng became China's first-ever Olympic tennis champion. But no ranking points were awarded. Jessica Pegula (6th) could face further ranking slide if she doesn't defend her title at the Canadian Open.

Danielle Collins climbs into the eighth spot while Maria Sakkari drops to the ninth. There were no new entrants into the Top 10, so Wimbledon champion Barbora Krecjikova rounds off the upper elite group.

Victoria Azarenka and Marta Kostyuk swap places. The Belarusian reached the quarterfinal in Washington, the host of the only WTA tournament this past week. It was her first event in two months.

She rises to 19th, while Kostyuk, who missed the event because of the Olympics, cascades to 20th. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (29th) re-enters the Top 30, while Linda Noskova (32nd) drops out of that group. Marie Bouzkova soars seven spots to 36th after reaching the Citi Open final.

The Czech lost resurgent Spanish player Paula Badosa, who captured her first WTA title in over two years and made her return to the Top 50 (40th). Both Bouzkova and Badosa can move into seeding positions for the US Open if they do well in Toronto and Cincinnati.

Caroline Dolehide also improved her ranking by three spots to move into 46th place. The American was a semifinalist at the WTA 500 event on home soil.

Emma Raducanu is another big mover in the latest rankings. The British tennis star jumped inside the Top 70 (69th). Raducanu, who withdrew from the Olympics, made up 20 spots, including in Washington, where she reached the quarterfinal and lost to eventual champion Badosa.

Kamila Rakhimova (93rd) and Anna Bondar (94th) both rejoined the Top 100, while Naomi Osaka improved five places to climb to 95th. It's the Japanese star's best WTA ranking since returning from maternity leave.

American teenager Robin Montgomery is closing in on her Top 100 debut. This past week, she reached the quarterfinal at the Citi Open, climbing to a career-high ranking of No. 107.

Spain's Nuria Parrizas Diaz won the W100 Maspalomas ITF tournament in her home country and rose to 116th in the rankings. You can track all the changes by visiting our dedicated WTA Rankings page.
