Anna Blinkova is a Russian professional tennis player who was born on September 10, 1998, in Moscow, Russia. Born to parents Elena and Vladimir, Anna started playing sports from an early age. This interest in competitive sports concentrated on chess and tennis, but the Russians opted to pursue a career in the latter.
After a successful junior career, which took her to the heights of world number 3 as well as the final of the Wimbledon girls’ competition, she was ready to try out her luck on the world stage. Turning pro in 2016, she made her WTA debut at the Morocco Open.
Despite losing in the first round, this did not discourage her, and soon enough, she was starting to rack up wins amongst the women. The following year was her first shot at a Grand Slam, having come through the qualifying tournament to play in the first round of the Australian Open. It was a similar story at that season’s Wimbledon and the US Open, with the Russian not quite ready to win her first round at that level just yet.
Having seen that her hard work was paying off, the young Russian was more motivated than ever, climbing up the rankings in the following seasons. Despite a brief lull in form in 2021, she was back to her best the year after, with her first title on the WTA tour at the 2022 Transylvania Open.
That was not the end of the good results for the youngster, with Blinkova reaching the third round of the French Open, equalling her career-best performance in Paris. Later, in 2023, she achieved her all-time career-high ranking of world number 34 in August.
The Russian is still looking to utilize these next few years of her career to push on and get some more silverware for the trophy cabinet. It’s sure that these coming years are set to be key for Blinkova as she finds herself in the peak period of performance.
