Coco Gauff extended her good run on hard courts this summer by beating Naomi Osaka 6-4 6-4 and moving on in San Jose.

Gauff played a very strong match having a slight advantage with her serve. The American served superbly and it's always been the key to her game. When she's both serving and returning well she is incredibly hard to beat and Osaka was not able to do it.

Gauff was content after the match saying:

"I think I improved in all aspects and today showed it. I knew playing Naomi was going to be tough. I think she has one of the best baseline games in the game. When I play her I know that if she does win the match that's where she's going to get me, in those baseline rallies."

"I think today I really held my ground and winning a lot more of those rallies than she was. That just shows how much I'm improving. The last three weeks, so many hours on the court and I'm glad it's coming together."

It doesn't get any easier for Gauff who will face Paula Badosa next and it wil be the 2nd time they have met this year. Gauff won the first one in Doha earlier this year and ahead of this one, she said:

“It's going to be another tough match. I feel like I got a lot of tough matches ahead of me, but that's tennis. I love competing and I feel like these tough matches will make me stronger, win or lose. And I want to play as many top players as I can before the US Open. If you want to win a tournament, then you have to at least beat one of them."
