While Novak Djokovic officially withdrew from the 2022 Canadian Open, an ATP 1000 event in Montreal, Andy Murray received a wild card.

Andy Murray had a lot of success in Canada before. He triumphed in Toronto in 2010 and he also won in Montreal in 2009 and 2015. This year, he will have a chance to add another trophy to his collection as he received a wild card for the ATP 1000 event in Montreal.

But he isn't the only player that received a wild card. David Goffin, who has been playing really well lately, will also appear at the event thanks to a wild card, and two Canadian players received a wild card.

One of them is experienced Vasek Pospisil and another one is 23-years-old Alexis Galarneau. Following the withdrawal of Novak Djokovic and Oscar Otte, also Benjamin Bonzi and Nick Kyrgios were added to the entry list.

For Murray, it will mark another chance to collect some important ranking points, and most importantly fight for a trophy, as he's yet to win one since 2019, when he triumphed at the European Open in Antwerp.

This year, he got into the final in Stuttgart, after beating the likes of Nick Kyrgios, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Alexander Bublik, but ultimately, Matteo Berrettini proved to be too strong to overcome.

Most recently, after extending his grass-court part of the season with showing in Newport, the British player competed at the Citi Open in Washington, but he lost to Sweden's Mikael Ymer in three sets, 6-7(8), 6-4, 1-6.

In Canada, where he had so much success before, Murray will want to forget this loss, but as a wild card, there's a chance that he will meet any of the seeded players early, and that could prove to be a disaster and another early exit for the former world no. 1.
