The Canadian Open, also called the Canada Masters, the Rogers Cup, and the National Bank Open, was initially a tennis tournament held only in Toronto, and it's actually the second-oldest active tennis tournament, trailing only the legendary Wimbledon.

Prior to 1981, all of the Canadian Open tournaments were held in Toronto, and in 1981, the even expanded also to Montreal, and since then, the cities have altered in welcoming men's and women's tournaments, with the inaugural tournament in Montreal being held at the Jarry Park Stadium.

It has remained part of the calendar ever since, and it's currently played at the IGA Stadium, creating a funny parallel with the name of the WTA player Iga Swiatek.

Thanks to its unique format, altering between the two cities every year, there have been multiple players over the years who had more success in Montreal than they did in Toronto, and vice versa.

Those that succeeded in Montreal are the likes of Simona Halep, who won the tournament in 2016 and 2018, but she then showed that she could win also in the other Canadian city, triumphing in Toronto in 2022, after the tournament was previously cancelled in 2020, changing the order of when the tournaments were played in each city.

Rafael Nadal is a five-time champion at the event, winning three of those titles in Montreal, and Andy Murray, who won the tournament three times, also has two of the triumphs from Montreal and only one from Toronto.
