Coco Gauff improved her H2H record against Naomi Osaka to 2-2 after beating her at the 2022 Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose.

While the teenage sensation enjoys one of the best seasons of her career and is only one match away from clinching her spot in the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings, Naomi Osaka played only 19 matches and so she lacks a bit of match practice.

And that certainly showed in their match. In the first set, Gauff was the only player to have breakpoints and she made a good use of that. After breaking her opponent in the fifth game, she stayed solid on her serve to win the set 6-4.

Osaka, who hit 11 aces in her previous match, didn't hit any in the first set and she improved her serve in the second set when she hit 3 aces. That almost helped to fuel her come back but eventually it was the young American who prevailed.

Gauff led already 5-1, 40-0 but Osaka denied 8 match points and so the teenager eventually won the match 6-4, 6-4 to set up the quarterfinal clash with the second-seeded Paula Badosa at the 2022 Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose.
