Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed that he is in talks with clothing sponsor Nike to create his own signature line while he's on the court.
Alcaraz is one of the sportswear company's prized assets, having enjoyed immense success at a very young age. Last year, when he won his second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon by beating Novak Djokovic in the final, he became the first man born after 1990 to hold two majors.
This year, he ended his eight-month title drought by defending the Indian Wells title and is seeking to become the first player to win three successive titles at the Madrid Open this fortnight.
Alcaraz's relationship with Nike dates back to 2015. But he signed his first lucrative contract, which is estimated to be worth seven figures per year, in 2020.
There is a growing belief that Alcaraz will shatter many tennis records by the end of his playing career, which is not happening anytime soon. He is on course to become the highest-paid tennis player because of his marketability and the highest prize money earner because of his on-court success.
One of the primary drivers behind Alcaraz's incredible rise to become the top earner in tennis is the creation of his own personal gear. The 20-year-old recently revealed in an interview with MARCA that the idea is being worked on.
He also mentioned Rafael Nadal as one of the top stars who has customized playing gear designed and tailored to his preferences. A specialized line of outfits and shoes isn't simply a marketing strategy for the clothing sponsor; it helps build a player's brand.
"We are having small talks with Nike. We have not yet released a line specialized in me, which is my brand, but we are working on it. Yes, we have talked about having my kits, which I like. I hope one day I can be like Rafa because he chooses kits, his line, his brand, a logo... I hope I reach his level."
