Rafael Nadal will now be even busier at home after he and Mery Perello became parents for the second time.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion has spent more time with his family since retiring from professional tennis in November after Team Spain lost in the quarterfinals to Team Netherlands at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals.
Nadal received a farewell ceremony at the Davis Cup and at this year's Roland Garros because he won 14 titles at the event. His celebration in Paris received more positive reviews than the Davis Cup in Malaga, with Toni Nadal among those who criticized that ceremony.
At both ceremonies and throughout his career, Nadal lauded his wife's impact. They began dating when the tennis legend was 19 and she was 17, and they remain together 20 years later.

Nadal becomes a father for the second time

Nadal's first son, also named Rafael, was born in October 2022. Mery's second pregnancy had been known about for some time, but fans did not know what the gender of their second child would be.
On August 7th, 2025, Mery gave birth to another boy. The high-profile couple decided to name him Miquel, and their closest family members visited the hospital to meet the new baby boy for the first time.
Spanish newspaper Ultima Hora reported that Mery recovered from the birth more quickly than during her previous pregnancy. On the third day, Mery and Rafael returned home from the hospital with Miquel.
Since Mery's second pregnancy was announced in April, Nadal has been asked about it a few times. An example was the two-time Wimbledon winner discussing it during his appearance at the 2025 Laureus Awards.
Nadal has previously talked about supporting his first son in whatever he wants to do in the future, and does not expect him to also be a professional player. The Mallorcan is more concerned about him being happy and following his interests.

Nadal seems to be enjoying retired life

The desperate and extensive measures Nadal took to prolong his career during its latter years meant many undoubtedly assumed that the 39-year-old would find it challenging to adjust his lifestyle.
Unless he is hiding his angst, Nadal has managed the change well. That has been helped by the former world No. 1 living virtually pain-free after stepping away from the ATP Tour.
Nadal's academy in Mallorca takes up much of his time. Toni plays a prominent role in running it on a weekly basis, but the 14-time French Open champion remains involved, especially since retiring from professional tennis.
Recently, Alexander Zverev worked with Toni at Nadal's academy, leading to speculation about him possibly becoming the German's coach, with Rafael acting as a mentor. Felix Auger-Aliassime is the only other player Toni has worked with since splitting with his nephew in 2017.
However, Toni's prominent role at the Rafa Nadal Academy reduces his chances of working full-time with Zverev. Many have called for Zverev to hire a high-profile coach to replace his father.
