Serena Williams will play in Toronto this year and Leylah Fernandez hopes she will play against her fulfilling a dream of hers.
Many players have played against Serena Williams over the years but some have yet to get the chance. One of them is Leylah Fernandez who admired Williams greatly from a young age. One of her hopes was to play the legend in a match one day and perhaps it might come this year. Speaking to TSN, Fernandez could not hide the excitement about Williams coming back:
“I was very excited. Tennis has missed her. She’s a big legend. Just seeing her back on court, competing and giving it her all and not giving up is a true inspiration. I know that kids and professional players are looking up to her.”
Fernandez hopes to meet her on the court in Toronto but at this point in time, she would take any match she can get. It's always been a dream of her to face Serena and for Leylah it would also be a huge privilege:
“Hopefully I can share the court with her before she retires. Hopefully, that’s not too soon. Hopefully, I can play a match against her. I just want to be able to tell everyone that I was able to play a match against Serena Williams. She’s just a legend.”
