Rafael Nadal's 2022 season concluded with a victory over Casper Ruud and he's already looking ahead to next year.

For Nadal, who will attempt to repeat some of his successes from this year, 2023 will be a significant year. It's unlikely he will suffer his first defeat at Indian Wells like this year, but his final performance in Turin undoubtedly demonstrated his continued tennis prowess.

“I have been practising well,” said Nadal in a cheery mood after securing the win over Ruud. He admitted that he didn't have much confidence before this event:

“Just probably not enough matches to be at the level that I needed to be. Not enough confidence, probably, after six tough months. That’s how it is. I accept that the season didn’t end the way that I wanted, [but] at least I finished with a positive victory."

Winning the final match 'was important' and he was 'happy about that' but it also showed him that the right attitude matters a lot. That's the thing he highlighted about next year, coming out with the right attitude:

“For 2023, just let’s try to have the right preparation, work the proper way and start the season with the right energy, the right attitude, to reach the level that I need to be competitive from the beginning. Let’s try it, I am excited about it.”

After all his 2023 was a spectacular year despite all the issues and he agreed: "I can’t complain at all. At my age, to be able to achieve and be competitive means a lot for me."
