One of the ATP 500 year-end competitions, the 2022 Vienna Open, will take place from October 24 through October 30 with a very good draw and an even stronger prize money package.

Alexander Zverev, the defending champion of the Vienna Open, will not be taking part this year owing to an injury that has interrupted his season. On the other hand, Frances Tiafoe, the Vienna finalist from last year and a semifinalist at the US Open this year, will travel to Austria for the ATP 500 competition.

The highest-seeded player at the event is world no. 4, Daniil Medvedev. The Russian returns to competition after retiring in his semifinal match in Astana against Novak Djokovic and welcoming his first daughter only a few days later. In the first round of the tournament, he will take on Nikoloz Basilashvili, who was just yesterday cleared of domestic abuse charges and can play freely in Vienna.

There will be a fierce competition for the 4th spot in the ATP Rankings in Austria as Medvedev's direct rival for the spot, Stefanos Tsitsipas is the second-seeded at the 2022 Vienna Open. Before travelling to Austria, the Greek attended an event in Sweden which was quite successful for him so far. In the first round in Vienna, he will take on home wild-card Dennis Novak.

Andrey Rublev is no. 3 in Vienna and he will begin his tournament against Diego Schwartzman. Last year's finalist, Frances Tiafoe will meet the fifth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz as no. 4 Taylor Fritz will need to wait for one of the qualifiers.

Home crowd favourite, Dominic Thiem will also compete in Vienna and he will start against Tommy Paul. However, already in the second round, he can meet former world no. 1, Daniil Medvedev.

Interesting first-round matchups include meeting of Jannik Sinner and Cristian Garin as well as the match between Matteo Berrettini and Dan Evans.
