Fans couldn't see Elina Svitolina on the WTA Tour since March 2022 and it seems that she may be away for quite some time.

During this season, the Ukrainian had pleasant worries as well as those less pleasing. While expecting her first child with husband Gael Monfils, her country faced a difficult situation and Svitolina soon recognized that she must help with her actions in the war.

“I miss the circuit, I miss training, I also miss the fans but what I miss the most is the victory, it’s like a drug,” Svitolina said in an interview with Canal + Sport. “I want to get back in shape, at my best, win matches and enjoy these moments.”

“This year has been both the happiest and the most tragic for me. The moment when I found out that Gael and I were going to have a child, the war broke out in my country. Even now, I still can’t fully describe what I was feeling at that moment. I felt hurt and powerless because I couldn’t stop this terrible war. However, I made a decision to take action,” Svitolina stated.

The Ukrainian also held a special gala event that was attended by many other athletes and helped to raise over 240,000€ for Svitolina's foundation and the United24 program that is backed by president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“On the 2nd of December, we held the 3rd edition of the charity gala. There, we raised over €240,000 for the Elina Svitolina Foundation and the United24 program launched by Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. For this, I want to THANK my dear friends, guests, and partners! No matter what the future brings, we will continue to take action for Ukraine and help young talents! Glory to Ukraine.”
