Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils have become parents for the first time. The Ukrainian announced the happy news on social media.

That wonderful development comes after a challenging year for both. Svitolina's last match on the WTA Tour was in March before she stepped away from tennis due to being pregnant with her first child.

The former Wimbledon semifinalist has also been managing the anxiety of her country being at war after Russia illegally invaded Ukraine in February 2022. That brutal war started by Russia continues and shows no signs of stopping.

Svitolina worked as an umpire during a charity event to aid Ukrainian charities that involved current WTA world No. 1 Iga Swiatek and former Wimbledon runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska. It was a significant success and raised a lot of money for the charities.

Monfils is one of the most popular and electric players in tennis. He is widely known for his incredible and perhaps unmatched athleticism and moments of outstanding shot-making that wow fans worldwide.

Unfortunately, the much-loved ATP star has suffered many injuries. This year has been no exception. After returning from three months out at the Canadian Open, Monfils picked up another injury against Jack Draper in the round of 16.

However, 2022 will still always be memorable for Svitolina and Monfils. The high-profile couple welcomed their first child after Svitolina gave birth to a daughter named Skai.

Former world no. 3 Svitolina shared the news on social media with a picture of both parents touching the baby's little hand. She added a caption expressing her delight and gratitude for having her husband, Gael, with her for the special moment.

"What a night !!! Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to Skaï Monfils. Can’t thanks enough my husband to live thru this unforgettable moment with me."
