Paula Badosa is disappointed about the hate that tennis players receive from fans on a daily basis, even without the fans really knowing them.
Badosa is one of the players who hasn't been afraid to talk about mental health. She detailed the struggles that tennis players might have, especially when they receive negative comments from the fans.
Unfortunately, such comments are nothing new in the world of tennis. Players often receive hateful messages, mostly after their losses. These mostly come from angry bettors who lost their money.
It's an ongoing issue that has been discussed many times, but at the moment, there doesn't seem to be a solution. However, it's still important to talk about the topic, which Badosa did.
The Spanish player talked to the WTA on World Mental Health Day. Badosa discussed how challenging it is to deal with the haters in the feature.
"I'm dealing with so many new things this year. One of the things that I'm dealing with is that, of course, I love them and I have a lot of fans, but for the first time I feel as well that I have haters."
One thing that Badosa couldn't understand was how people could hate her even when they didn't know her. Most of the fans see tennis players only on the courts, and getting hate for that is something the Spaniard can't understand.
"That was very tough for me to understand because I couldn't understand why people can hate me without knowing me, you know? It's still tough for me to see people that, no matter what you do, they're still going to judge you and criticize you, and they're going to hate you. I'm still dealing with that and it's something that's tough to handle."
Badosa didn't have the best year on the tennis courts, which is likely also one of the reasons why she experienced an increased number of haters. She will want to use that as fuel and prove them wrong in the upcoming seasons.
