The ASB Classic in Auckland is the only Tour-level tournament in New Zealand, and it has been staged there since 1956, before the Open Era.
In 2024, the WTA tournament in New Zealand’s North Island will mark its 37th edition as a fully-fledged Tour-level event with a prize money pot nearing pre-pandemic levels. The 32-player singles field will compete to earn a huge share of the $267,082 in prize money.
There is so much depth in talent and experience, with teenagers and veterans set to headline this WTA 250 event in a vibrant city in the opening week. Coco Gauff is returning to defend her crown and has learned the identity of her first-round opponent in the recently-released draw.
A first-round duel pitting former finalist Caroline Wozniacki against Elina Svitolina in a battle between two WTA mothers. Young guns like Linda Fruhvirtova, Xiyu Wang, Amanda Anisimova, and Emma Raducanu will look to pull off a surprise or two in the draw.
Apart from sightseeing in the City of Sails, the 32 players will fight to win the biggest share of prize money, which will be pocketed by the lucky champion, which is $35,250.
This is a marginal increase from last year when Gauff emerged as the winner. The champion will also receive the full 250 ranking points. The runner-up will be the second-highest earner, banking precisely $20,830 before taxes, in addition to 163 points.
Semifinalists will make $11,610 and receive 98 points. Even those that win only one match will not leave Auckland empty-handed. Such players will be remunerated accordingly with a paycheck worth $2,890 and 1 ranking point, which could be critical in tight ranking scenarios.
Second-rounders get to make $4,040 and 30 points, while quarterfinalists will receive $6,608 and 54 points. The complete prize money breakdown for the 2024 ASB Classic in Auckland is detailed below.
