From July 31st to August 6th, WTA players will compete at a prestigious WTA 500 event, the 2023 Citi Open in Washington.

Last year, there were two simultaneous WTA tournament held in the United States. One was played in San Jose and another in Washington. But for 2023, the tournament organizers made a change and created a new tournament, called the Mubadala Citi DC Open.

A name that attempted to put together two major sponsors of both tournaments, but even if that may confuse some fans, something the organizers managed to put together really well is the entry list for the event.

Among the dazzling lineup, Jessica Pegula makes a strong impression. As the highest-ranked American tennis player, she is set to grace the courts in Washington, bringing with her two career WTA singles titles and seven career doubles titles.

The mighty American duo of Pegula and Coco Gauff are currently the only WTA players ranked in the top 10 in both singles and doubles. Their collaborative chemistry will be something to watch, considering their previous success, and it's confirmed that they will appear in both competitions also in Washington.

Adding international flavor to the list is the resurgent Caroline Garcia, boasting an impressive 2022 season that witnessed her return into the Top 10 and capture four singles titles. Newcomers to the Washington field, Daria Kasatkina and wild card entrant Elina Svitolina, who recently met at the Roland Garros in Paris, also add their unique flair to the tournament.

Not to be overlooked, veterans Victoria Azarenka and Sloane Stephens return to the tournament. Azarenka, a two-time Grand Slam champion and former World No.1, and Stephens, the 2017 US Open and 2015 D.C. titleholder, are anticipated to bring their experience and class to the competition.

Along with the ATP event also held in Washington, the chairman of the 2023 Citi Open in Washington, Mark Ein, shared that the tournament will be most probably sold out again due to the incredible line-up coming during the summer.

"With seven current top 10 players, three former number ones and so many fan favorites, Washington has become one of the most anticipated stops on both tours for players and one of the biggest events of the summer in DC. Ticket sales are at a record pace and we expect a third straight summer of a completely sold-out event."
