After finishing inside of Top 10 of the ATP Rankings every season from 2016 until 2018, Marin Cilic found himself out of Top 25 from 2019 until 2021.

However, this year, the 34-year-old Croat ended the season as world no. 17 and despite his age, he still feels like there's a lot ahead of him. Speaking about previous seasons in relation to 2022, Cilic said:

“I would say that in general the tennis has not run away from me," he said on the ATP Tennis Radio Podcast. "It’s just the feeling of putting everything together and generally when you watch tennis at a high level it seems quite simple. Then you come to some stages where it become more difficult to put those things together, but for me I never doubted that I’d find playing good tennis.”

Asked about playing the Big Three more regularly back in the days as many players from his generation will soon or later retire, the Croatian answered:

"Very often I would go on YouTube and watch highlights of many of their matches, because those were the pinnacles of the sport."

Asked about his own retirement, that he spoke about once this season already, he responded:

"I have no idea and I'm not trying to think of a number even though it's been very busy in the retirement world these couple of months. This generation has produced so many incredible tennis guys, also on the women's tour. Not thinking about it, taking it step by step and looking ahead."
