On Friday evening, Canada and Germany took care of probably the craziest quarterfinal tie at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals.

It all started with a singles match between Jan-Lennard Struff and Denis Shapovalov. The Canadian was big favourite, but he didn't have a good start as he lost the opening set 3-6. After equalling the score by winning second set 6-4, he found himself short a break once more in the third set.

Although Shapovalov succeeded when facing a match point, in the ninth game, he couldn't do the same thing in a tie-break and eventually lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-7(2).

After that, Canadian no. 1 Felix Auger-Aliassime stepped on the court and showed that his national team can rely on him any time. He defeated Oscar Otte in two sets and needed just an hour and 42 minutes to level the score after 7-6(1), 6-4 triumph.

After previously losing in singles, Shapovalov was nominated for doubles alongside Vasek Pospisil. The Canadian team took on German doubles specialists Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.

Despite a superb start of the German team that managed to win the first set 6-2, it was eventually Canadians who celebrated a victory after beating Krawietz and Puetz 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
