World no. 240 Sofia Kenin is trying to boost her position on the WTA Tour before start of the 2023 season as she signed up for WTA 125 event in Angers.

If the American triumphs in France, she can jump all the way to 146th place in the WTA Rankings, which is still very far from her career-high no. 4. And she did her best to start her climb as she was very dominant against Dayana Yastremska, who was ranked 21st once in her career.

Previously, the Ukrainian defended the 2020 Australian Open champion twice, but in Angers the match was one-sided. Kenin started with a break in the first game and despite facing three break points in the next one, she kept her lead and won the first set easily 6-4.

The American increased the intensity even more in the second set. She started with a break again but this time, she added one more and in only 67 minutes, Kenin won the match 6-4, 6-2.

In the second round of the event, she can face her compatriot Katrina Scott or yet another Ukrainian, the second-seeded Anhelina Kalinina.
