Serena Williams played her first match in almost a year and despite facing a match point, she and her doubles partner Ons Jabeur succeeded in their match at the Eastbourne International.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is back and she will try to win her 24th at the 2022 Wimbledon. Prior to the third Grand Slam of the season, Serena Williams is practicing and preparing in Eastbourne where she also plays doubles alongside Ons Jabeur. In their first match, they faced a match point but eventually won it, and they were both happy afterwards, stating:

"It was so fun to play with Ons. It was great, we had a lot of fun, and our opponents played amazing! We were just trying to stay in there after the first set."

Serena Williams

"It was so much fun. I was a little bit nervous before, playing with such a legend, but she made me really good on the court, and even when I made mistakes, she’d keep encouraging me."

Ons Jabeur

"I caught some fire behind me, so it was good, I needed that. I'm literally taking it one day at a time. I really took my time with my hamstring injury so I'm just not making a ton of decisions after this. I definitely felt good out there and I was talking with Ons in the first set and I said, 'We're not playing bad, they really played really good in that set.'"

Serena Williams

"But obviously winning and getting more balls and playing a little bit more made us feel a lot better and it definitely felt reassuring, like, okay, it's clicking in practice and now it seems like it's clicking."
