Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton have pledged millions of pounds to one of the bids trying to buy Chelsea Football Club.

After Roman Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea Football Club, many suiters emerged. The Club has been one of the most successful clubs both domestically and internationally in recent decades thanks to Abramovich and his commitment to developing the club.

The value of the club has skyrocketed as a result, with many now wanting to jump into sports ownership. One of those is former Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton, who is the former chairman of British Airways as well.

He spearheads a group of investors interested in taking over the club after several initial sale attempts fell through. Some of the names are not familiar to the wider public, but two should be very familiar to most sports tennis.

Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton and tennis legend Serena Williams are amongst those who pledged significant funds to the takeover attempt. It seems like the British racing driver might be keen to try himself as a part-time owner, and interestingly enough, Hamilton is a self-proclaimed Arsenal fan.

Williams, on the other hand, has an established venture capital fund that she uses for many investments. Serena Ventures announced earlier this week an investment in OpenSponsorship, a British-based sports technology start-up.

While she stays busy off the tennis court, Serena is gearing up for the comeback in the meantime, as tennis fans can't wait to see the 23-time Grand Slam champion step on the tennis court once again, in what may soon become her farewell season.

The American has been one of the most successful tennis players in the history, if not the most successful, and winning the 24th Grand Slam title would be a fitting end to her career. While it remains to be seen if she can win number 24, one thing is certain, and that's the fact that Williams is making sure to stay busy also post-retirement.
