Novak Djokovic demonstrated his gratitude off the court this week when a young fan returned his lost credit card in the midst of a thrilling basketball game in Belgrade.
The 22-time Grand Slam winner is currently on a break from tennis due to the entry requirements to the United States. That means that he was not able to enter the country and compete at the Indian Wells and Miami Open, an ATP 1000 tournament, also called the Sunshine Double.
In the meantime, the Serbian took the opportunity to enjoy a Euroleague basketball clash between local powerhouse Crvena Zvezda and Valencia. Djokovic, who is a well-known basketball enthusiast, was greeted with a standing ovation from the enthusiastic crowd as he arrived at the arena.
He graciously acknowledged his fans, waving in response to their heartwarming reception. During halftime, the 35-year-old seized the chance to interact with some young fans on the court, sparking a flurry of excitement as they eagerly sought handshakes and selfies with the tennis legend.
In the midst of the frenzy, Djokovic discreetly handed something that appeared to be money to one of the boys, and it was later revealed that the boy was the good samaritan who had returned Djokovic's lost credit card.
The heartfelt exchange between Djokovic and the youngster not only showcased the tennis icon's appreciation for his fans but also highlighted the values of honesty and integrity that resonate in the world of sports.
Receiving back the lost credit card were not the only good news for the Serb in the past hours. Because of the lift of restrictions in the United States, he will be able to compete at the 2023 US Open, where he'll attempt to win another Grand Slam title, depending on his results at the upcoming two, his 23rd, 24th, or possibly 25th.
