The 2025
Indian Wells Open will be one of the most significant combined
ATP and
WTA tournaments outside the four Grand Slams, and the
prize money and ranking points for the event, running from March 5th to 16th, have been revealed.
Carlos Alcaraz, who suffered
a shock defeat to Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Qatar Open, is the two-time defending men's singles champion. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in last year's final.
Iga Swiatek is the women's defending champion. The four-time French Open champion also won the tournament in 2022 during her incredible 37-match winning streak in that season from February until the third round of the Wimbledon Championships.
Many other great players will play at the
ATP and
WTA 1000 tournament, including
Coco Gauff,
Aryna Sabalenka,
Madison Keys,
Novak Djokovic, and
Alexander Zverev. As usual, fans will be treated to great tennis in California.
The
Indian Wells Open is among the combined 1000 events offering all players equal
prize money. However, the ranking points awarded by the
ATP and
WTA differ slightly.
This year's
Indian Wells Open champion in the men's and women's singles will receive a whopping $1,201,125 for that achievement. Not many tournaments offer a seven-figure award for being the winner.
The
ATP and
WTA Tours award players 1000 ranking points for ending the event as the champion. Differences between how the governing bodies give points start from the semifinal stage.
This year's
Indian Wells Open men's singles and women's singles runner-ups will earn a substantial $638,750 and 650 ranking points for being the second-best player at the tournament. Maria Sakkari was the
WTA runner-up in 2024.
Players who lose in the semifinals will receive $354,850.
ATP stars who reach the semifinal stage of Masters tournaments get 400 ranking points, while
WTA players receive a slightly lower 390 points.
The rewards remain significant for reaching the quarterfinal. $202,000 will be added to the players' bank accounts.
ATP competitors are set to collect 200 ranking points, while it is a higher 215 for those on the
WTA.
Being defeated in the round of 16 will be good enough for the men's and women's singles players to collect a six-figure sum of $110,250. 120 ranking points are on offer for
WTA stars and 100 points for their
ATP counterparts.
Although the rewards begin to lessen from the round of 32 stage, there is still enough there to motivate players. $64,500 is guaranteed to the men and women who progress that far in the tournament.
The trend of the
WTA Tour awarding its players slightly more ranking points from the quarterfinals and down continues in the round of 32. They will get 65 ranking points compared to 50 for those from the
ATP.
Being among the players in the round of 64 will lead to a financial reward of $37,650.
WTA players will be given 35 ranking points and
ATP stars 30 points (excluding players who got byes; they receive first-round points), representing a minuscule difference between the governing bodies.
$25,375 will be given to players who lose in the opening round of the
Indian Wells Open. 10 ranking points are given to those from the
WTA under all circumstances. The
ATP differs by giving 10 points to all players except those awarded wild cards.
