The 2022 Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi saw a highly anticipated rematch between world number one Carlos Alcaraz and world number three Casper Ruud.

The two players had previously faced off at the 2022 US Open, where Alcaraz, at just 19 years old, became the youngest world number one in the history of tennis after defeating Ruud in a thrilling final.

However, this time around, the outcome was much different. the Spaniard, who was coming back from an injury, struggled to find his rhythm and was ultimately defeated by Ruud 1-6, 4-6 in the match for third place.

The first set saw Ruud dominate from the start, breaking Alcaraz's serve early and maintaining a strong lead throughout. Despite a valiant effort from Alcaraz, he was unable to find his footing and ultimately lost the set 1-6.

In the second set, Alcaraz appeared to find some momentum, he had five chances to break Ruud's serve and he was holding his own for much of the set. However, Ruud ultimately got the break, winning the set 4-6 and securing the match victory.

This loss was a tough pill for Alcaraz to swallow, especially after his impressive performance at the US Open earlier in the year. However, he can take solace in the fact that he was coming back from an injury and will surely have many more opportunities to showcase his talent on the world stage.

For Ruud, this victory was a much-needed boost after a disappointing showing at the US Open. He will no doubt be looking to carry this momentum into the rest of the season and continue his ascent up the rankings.
