Roger Federer was supposed to play at the tennis event in Basel but despite retiring from tennis a couple of months before it, he'll still be there.
The "Frank Sinatra of tennis" as he was called, will be at the Swiss Indoors Basel, according to tournament director Roger Brennwald who promised this to tennis fans. Brennwald made a formal announcement on the competition website regarding the potential for the legend to take the court in front of the home audience.
"The huge fan base, partners and supporters of the Swiss Indoors are looking forward to seeing the legend step on to the center court once again this year. We will give Roger Federer a warm farewell in St. Jakob. Further information will follow at a later date."
It doesn't fit with how Federer announced his intentions because the Laver Cup would be his last event, as expressed in his statement. Federer won't be donning a tennis outfit for the Basel event; it will mostly just be a ceremony to celebrate his career.
