Andy Roddick would take Rafael Nadal's two-slam year before anybody else's 2022 as he explained on the Tennis Channel.
In a panel discussion on the Tennis Channel, Roddick discussed the recent 2022 season and which player had the best year. Roddick chose Alcaraz as the player who had the best 2022 season in the section, which was then criticized on Twitter by a Nadal supporter.
The fan wrote:
"Just watched the post match Nitto ATPs Final discussion.. every sport’s commentator has their own professional opinion on who’s the best player of 2022. They were fair & respectful but I like Jim Courier’s the best he’s always professional & fair with sound analysis of the sport.
"Jim chose Rafa for 22 GS & on top w/ 2 GS 2 ATPs despite the odds for best player of 2022. Andy said “you’re not gonna find a Rafan in me” & chose Alcaraz. Andy I understand U got beaten by 18 y/o Rafa in your prime. Must be tough to take."
Roddick responded to it explaining that he personally would choose Nadal's year for himself:
"The words were actually ….. “You won’t find a bigger Rafa fan than me “ I’ve been saying all week I’d take Rafas two slams over anyone else’s year. But ok ….."
