Andy Murray started donating all of his earned prize money to Ukrainian relief efforts with the specific aim to help children affected by the war.

Murray has been a UNICEF ambassador for a few years and the Brit takes that role very seriously. Being a father of four children certainly helped Murray be more sympathetic to the whole cause. War is a terrible thing and Murray understood immediately that children are one of the most affected groups especially since they bear the least amount of responsibility for a situation like that.

That's why he opted to start donating all of his earned prize money to those relief efforts. His donation will be matched by the Citi Open in Washington, something Murray highlighted as important. Speaking ahead of the event, the Brit said that he's unsure of the exact number of money donated but he assumes it's quite a large sum by now:

“I don't know the exact figure. I started donating my prize money from Indian Wells, I think [that’s when] I started. I don't know the exact figure, but it would be quite a few hundred thousand dollars."

Murray also pointed out that he's not looking for a specific target simply wanted to help as much as he can:

“There's not a specific target as such. I just want to try and win as many matches as possible and raise as much money as I can. Yeah, it will be a significant amount hopefully by the end of the year. Hopefully it makes a difference.”
