Only one player in Top 10 of the ATP Rankings played more tournaments this year than Casper Ruud and it showed in his opening match at the 2022 Japan Open in Tokyo.

The young Norwegian took on Jaume Munar from Spain and surprisingly, he lost in two sets. Casper Ruud played already 65 matches this year, while playing two Grand Slam finals and attending events like Laver Cup. Shortly after the event in London, he travelled to Soul, where he lost in the second round and in the following tournament, he lost already in the first round.

After his match, Ruud looked back on his schedule and admitted that he might have singed up for too many tournaments. The Norwegian identified that as one of the reasons why he wasn't able to show his A game in Asia, as he said:

“I might have pushed a little too much and tried to go for too many tournaments and too many matches in a row but I really wanted to come to Asia and play these tournaments,” Ruud said. “Today I wasn’t able to bring my best level but it’s an experience and a situation I will try to learn from.”

“It’s been a long summer. I’ve been playing non-stop and I think my body felt it a little bit today. It was tough to get the machinery going.”
