Casper Ruud won his first match as the World No. 2 player at the 2022 Korea Open in Seoul. He beat Nicolas Jarry in the second round.

After his stunning run to the final at the last Grand Slam of the season, Ruud climbed up to second place in the ATP Rankings. Since playing in the US Open final, the young Norwegian played one Davis Cup match and also one match at a Laver Cup, in which he defeated Jack Sock.

But the 2022 Korea Open in Seoul was his first ATP Tour-level tournament as a World No. 2 player. During the Laver Cup, Ruud had a chance to be coached by the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray, and he surely wanted to use that experience in his second-round match against Jarry.

Ruud had a first-round bye in Seoul, which meant that he could start in the second round, and everything went well for the Norwegian at the start of his match against Jarry.

He quickly broke his opponent's serve twice in the opening set to lead 4-0. He then kept his cool on his service games to win the first set 6-2 in just 30 minutes.

The World No. 2 player was looking to end the match quickly in the second set, and he also had two break points to get the needed advantage. However, he couldn't use those as Jarry stepped up and got a break himself.

After hitting a total of eight aces in the second set, the World No. 111 player won 6-3, and the match had to be decided in the third set.

Yet, there weren't many chances for the Chilean as Ruud used all of the experience that he gained in 2022 to prevail in the match and win it 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to set up a quarter-final clash with Yoshihito Nishioka.
