Carlos Alcaraz began his 7th consecutive week as the number one player in the world surpassing a few notable former players such as Rios and Kafelnikov in consecutive weeks as number one.
In any age of tennis, it is difficult to reach the world's top rank. Alcaraz was able to complete the task with the aid of a few favourable situations, but he's persevering to show that constancy is ultimately the most important factor.
Although he hadn't played much since gaining the top spot, he performed well enough early this year to prevent other players from overtaking him. How Ruud or Nadal finish off the year will have a major impact on whether he can finish as the top player.
They are the biggest threats to his number one ranking and if you wonder what the difference is, be sure to check out our ATP Rankings page for all the details. There is another battle for points that is brewing but this one is related to who ends up in Turin.
Auger-Alissime has the biggest chance after back-to-back trophies in Florence and Antwerp but Hurkacz and Fritz are in contention as well.
