Carlos Alcaraz plans to compete at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals in Malaga. The US Open champion was among the nominated players.
After succeeding in the group stage of this year's Davis Cup in Valencia, the Spanish Davis Cup team will compete at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals in Malaga.
In Group B of the group stage, Spain defeated the Republic of Korea and Serbia, and it was Alcaraz who won the decisive match against Soonwoo Kwon.
Although he lost in his first match at the event against Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alcaraz proved to be an important player for his team. On top of that, he showed the desire to represent his country, as he flew to Valencia only a few hours after his win in New York.
Now, he was picked to represent his country again. Team captain Sergi Bruguera chose his team for the 2022 Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, which includes a great mix of youth and experience, and singles and doubles players.
Alcaraz will represent Spain in Malaga, and he will be joined by Pablo Carreno Busta, Roberto Bautista Agut, and Marcel Granollers.
In the Final 8, Spain will play against Croatia on November 23rd, 2022, in Malaga. The tie will be played on a hard court, and also the Croatian team announced their squad.
Marin Cilic, Borna Coric, Borna Gojo, Mate Pavic, and Nikola Mektic will travel to Spain. The Croatian team will certainly prove to be a real test for the Spaniards.
However, the Spanish team will have the ATP World No. 1 player, who enjoys playing in front of his fans, as he said in Valencia.
"Playing the Davis Cup here is an honor for me. But it’s even better to come here being No. 1 in the world and US Open champion, to share this moment with all my people, my family, my friends. I’m really happy to live this moment right now and to share this moment with all of them."
