Australia will be playing in the final tie at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals after miraculously coming back against Croatia in the semifinals.

Croatian team was considered as a heavy favourite to win the 2022 Davis Cup Finals as they had a very strong duo of singles players and one of the best doubles teams in the world. However, they were stopped in the semifinals by Australia that just refused to lose on the hard courts of Malaga.

It started with a singles match for which Lleyton Hewitt nominated Thanasi Kokkinakis. The Australian took on Croatian no. 2 Borna Coric and despite hitting 11 aces and 11 winners, he was broken once in each set and eventually lost 4-6, 3-6 in an hour and 32 minutes.

Alex de Minaur wanted to save the day for Australia and he did more than that. The Aussie showed an incredible effort to destroy Marin Cilic 6-2, 6-2 in only 44 minutes and send the first semifinal tie into third doubles match.

Experienced Croatian duo Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic took on Max Purcell, who didn't play with his usual doubles partner Matthew Ebden but Jordan Thompson. That proved to be a crucial choice done by Hewitt as the Australians managed to come back after losing the first set in a tie-break.

After two hours and 14 minutes, Purcell and Thompson won 6-7(3), 7-5, 6-4 and sent Australia to 2022 Davis Cup Finals final. They will play against winner of the tie between Italy and Canada on Sunday.
