One of the matches at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals was interrupted by protestors who tied themselves to the net.
Croatia played against Spain in the second Davis Cup quarter-final tie at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga, Spain. Unfortunately, except for high-quality tennis, the tie also offered some sad scenes.
Spanish team wanted to take advantage of the home court. However, they couldn't do that as Borna Coric defeated Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 7-6(4) before Marin Cilic completed Croatia's win with a comeback victory over Pablo Carreno Busta 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(5).
It was after the opening match of the quarter-final tie between Croatia and Spain when the protesters decided to jump onto the court and attempt to tie themselves to the net while the crowd waited for the protagonists of the second match to step onto the court.
Two people ran onto the court without anyone inside the arena knowing what was happening. It soon became obvious that something was out of the ordinary when the security guards started chasing them.
In almost no time, the two protestors ran to the net, and they attempted to tie themselves to the net. While doing such protests, it's common for people to attempt to tie or glue themselves to something in order to stay at the place longer. That allows them to have a longer time to share their message.
That was the case also in Malaga, but the security guards were able to respond relatively quickly to what happened on the tennis court.
Of course, fans didn't have any understanding of the actions of these two people. After they were tackled by the security, they were escorted off the court. As they were leaving, fans booed the people for their actions. Luckily, no players were involved in this incident, and the tie could continue.
