Stefanos Tsitsipas was fighting for the last semifinal spot at the 2022 ATP Finals, but it didn't go as he planned against Andrey Rublev.
After losing to Novak Djokovic and defeated Daniil Medvedev, the Greek player took on Andrey Rublev, who also had one victory. Therefore, winner of their clash was set to advance to the semifinals of the 2022 ATP Finals and so there was a lot to play for since the first ball.
Despite starting well and winning the first set, Tsitsipas eventually lost 6-3, 3-6, 2-6 in an hour and 45 minutes as he showed a lot of frustration during the match and also after the match.
In an attempt to help his son, father Apostolos and mother Julia tried to encourage Stefanos in his battle against Rublev. However, their attempts were not appreciated by their son, who shot a ball in their direction in visible annoyance and anger.
Following the match, the Greek also spoke about his opponent, who he felt like wasn't better player, despite beating him with "few tools".
Although the 2022 ATP Finals didn't go as planned for Tsitsipas, he can still finish the year on his career-high 3rd position in the ATP Rankings. However, if Casper Ruud wins his semifinal match, the Norwegian will move to the third spot.
