From October 3rd until 9th some of the best ATP player will play at the 2022 Japan Open in Tokyo as the draw is packed with star names.
Novak Djokovic defeated John Millman in the 2019 event's previous championship match. David Goffin, Nick Kyrgios, Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and many other players have won the Japan Open in Tokyo previously in their careers and this year, there are some new favourites in the draw.
Only previous champion in the draw of the 2022 Japan Open in Tokyo is Nick Kyrgios. The Australian is fifth-seeded and he will begin his tournament against Chun-Hsin Tseng. If he succeeds, he will meet one of the qualifiers or Kamil Majchrzak in the second round.
Two-time Grand Slam finalist in 2022, Casper Ruud is the top-seeded player at the event. The young Norwegian will play against Jaume Munar in the opening round as world number 3 managed to beat his Spanish opponent three times before. Once on Challenger Tour and two times on the ATP Tour. However, all matches were played on clay and conditions may be much different on the hard courts of Tokyo.
The second-seeded Cameron Norrie will try to add his third title this season and he will need to beat Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round if he wants to do so. Frances Tiafoe, who clinched the final win for Team World at this year's Laver Cup, is the fourth-seeded at the 2022 Japan Open in Tokyo and he will play against home wild-card Yasutaka Uchiyama.
His teammate from Team World, Taylor Fritz will also play at the event. The American is no. 3 in the draw and he will start his tournament against James Duckworth. Some of the interesting first-round matches include the meeting of Denis Shapovalov and Steve Johnson, and also Alex de Minaur and Soonwoo Kwon, who will also meet in the first round.
