Once the WTA Tour finishes up with the Masters events it will hold two 250 events with one being the one in Cleveland running from August 21st till August 27th.
It's a WTA 250 event and it will serve for players to get some more playing time on North American hard courts ahead of the US Open that starts next week. It generally doesn't feature a strong entry field because the majority of players opt to go to New York early to better prepare for the final major of the year. This year is no exception as Martina Trevisan is set to be the top seed.
The Italian is a fairly decent player, a semifinalist at this year's Roland Garros but not many would consider her a top player. Besides her, we will see Ekaterina Alexandrova and Camila Giorgi who are solid players as well. Last year was the first time the event was held and it saw Anett Kontaveit capture the trophy.
