Andy Murray loves to play on grass-courts and he tries to prove that at the 2022 Newport Open where he will play already in the quarterfinals.

Two-time Wimbledon champion extended his grass-court season this year and after 16 years, he took part at the Newport Open. The only grass-court tournament after Wimbledon in the calendar. In his second round match, Andy Murray took on Max Purcell who came to the United States after a Wimbledon doubles triumph.

In the past few months, Murray wasn't really used to being seeded at tournaments, but at the Newport, no. 6 is displayed next to his name and the Scot is proving that he's one of the favourites. In the first round, he destroyed Sam Querrey 6-0, 6-2 and despite a slow start, he continued in a similar style also against the Australian.

Former world number 1 started the match with seven consecutive points won, but that was not enough for him to get a break and a 2-0 lead. His opponent won 10 points in a row and soon he found himself leading the set 5-1. But it was Murray's time for a streak as he won 12 out of 13 points to make it 5-4 for the Aussie.

When serving for the set, Purcell threw away 4 breakpoints before had two break point opportunities, but couldn't use them and the Australian won the set 6-4.

Things very looking quite badly for Murray in the second set when he was already a set and a break down. Yet, he came with an incredible streak of 19 consecutive points won. That and one more break later in the set guaranteed him a 6-2 win as the players headed into the last set.

Murray proved to be the better player once again as he didn't allow his opponent to win a single service game in the third set. And despite losing his serve once, the three-time Grand Slam champion prevailed with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory to set up a quarterfinal clash with the third-seeded Alexander Bublik.
