The 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals are set to take place from November 8th until 13th in the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
However, only one day before the group stages in Glasgow kick-off, final of the 2022 WTA Finals in Fort Worth is played. The flight from Texas to Glasgow takes around 12 hours, not counting the time to get to the airport and also a jetlag. That makes it almost impossible for any player that plays final at the 2022 WTA Finals to compete also at the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Finals and that's an issue that Iga Swiatek may be facing.
The young Pole will lead her country in Group D against the Czech Republic and United States. USA also has two very big candidates to qualify for the 2022 WTA Finals as Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula are really high in the WTA Race and so they may face a similar issue. Moreover, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula will most probably compete also in doubles and another Americans have also a big chance to compete.
Czech Republic can be facing the same issues as Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, the highest-ranked team in the world, will also play in Fort Worth. Speaking to Polish media house Gazeta, the world number 1 said:
"I am dissatisfied, although I know that arranging everything is complicated. Certainly the fact that the WTA and ITF federations in a sense did not cooperate to facilitate our task is irritating to me. I will definitely take steps to let them know about my dissatisfaction," Iga Swiatek said.
"I don't understand the scheduling, I'm not gonna lie that I'm happy about the fact that if I go deep in finals I will have to not only play tired but also Jetlagged the next day. So I can't confirm whether I'll represent Poland or not. I'm sorry," Swiatek said.
"I have such a position that I can have some influence and maybe my voice will prevent it from happening again in the years to come," she said.
