Emma Raducanu achieved much in her young career but not many know that she started as one of the very few girls playing with boys.

Emma Raducanu sat down with HSBC on International Woman's Day to talk about her tennis beginning and how her first steps were made among boys. The experienced was quite daunting for her, being one of few girls playing among boys but it also shaped her as a person helping her in the long run.

When I was younger, playing tennis, I was one of the only girls in a squad of boys playing tennis and that can be quite daunting. I think you’re intimidated to start with, but then you want to try and win.

Tennis is a vital part of her life and it has been for a while. She loves the sport and it helped her become the person she is today. Her hope is that many young girls have the same positive experience with the game helping them develop themselves as well.

Yeah, I think that I just grew as a person and now I think that tennis gave me that. I hope it can do the same for other young girls out there.

Raducanu's US Open win has been somewhat discredited in the past year with many calling the Brit a one-hit-wonder. She doesn't mind talk like that because she loves to prove people wrong. Many doubted her after Wimbledon making her US Open win even more satisfactory to her.

I don’t mind if people undermine me or count me out because then I feel like the underdog and when I prove then wrong, it’s even more satisfactory.

She begins her Indian Wells campaign later today unless a wrist injury forces her to withdraw from the event. Her participation is not set in stone but is more like to be determined.
