The WTA event in Granby Canada has been promoted to a WTA 250 event and its first edition will feature some good tennis players.
The tournament's top seed, Daria Kasatkina, will strive to overcome some disappointing results in the WTA Premier events recently. She took home a title from San Jose, but she utterly disappointed at both WTA 1000 tournaments. Now, with Greet Minnen waiting for her in round one here, she's hoping to turn things around.
Daria Saville who replaced Alison van Uytvanck, the second seed, will take on Anna Schmiedlova in the first round of the competition. Other intriguing matches are Kovinic vs Frech, Dart vs. Zanevska, and Podoroska vs. Maria. The competition is held on hard courts without the elite athletes because the US Open will take place a week later.
Nonetheless, the competition is strong and includes players who didn't have the ideal preparation for the US Open in order to improve their form for the year's final grand slam like Kasatkina.
