The 2022 Hamburg Open, which will be held from July 17–23 and feature some intriguing names in the draw, will bring WTA activity back to Hamburg.
Legends like Venus Williams, Martina Hingis, Steffi Graf, and Kim Clijsters have already won in Hamburg, and after almost 20 years, the tournament is returning there once again with Gabriela Ruse defending her title from last year at the 2022 Hamburg Open.
Anett Kontaveit, who joined the tournament last minute via a wild-card, will begin against Irina Bara. No. 2 in Hamburg, Daria Kasatkina will play against the recent Wimbledon doubles champion, Katerina Siniakova and her doubles partner from that triumph, Barbora Krejcikova will be the third-seeded and begin against a qualifier.
Fans in Hamburg will see also an all-German first-round match between Tamara Korpatsch and the eight-seeded Andrea Petkovic. Also Russian fans will enjoy a match of two compatriots as the sixth-seeded Varvara Gracheva will play against Anastasia Potapova.
