Aliaksandra Sasnovich is a Belarusian professional tennis player who was born on March 22, 1994, in Minsk, Belarus. She comes from a sporting family, with her mum specializing in basketball and her dad enjoying a career in ice hockey and tennis.
After picking up the sport at age 9, it became clear she had what it took to make it on the WTA Tour. It was not all plain sailing for the Belarusian, though, as she had to grind out results at ITF-level tournaments from 2009 onwards.
It was not until 2014 that she made her main draw WTA debut at that season’s US Open. Following a promising start to her career, subsequent results followed suit. 2015 brought her first WTA Tour-level final, but she came second best to Irina-Camelia Begu at the Korea Open.
This did not dishearten her, though. She went on to make quarters and semis of several WTA events in 2017. 2018 got off to a promising start for the Belarusian, with her achieving her career-best performance at the season-opening Grand Slam in Australia (third round).
To prove this was no flash in the pan, she went on to achieve fourth-round and third-round appearances at Wimbledon and the US Open, respectively. She was keen to harbor this momentum and went on good runs in doubles tournaments later that decade – 2019 brought her first Grand Slam semifinal in women’s doubles at the US Open.
Further on down the line (2022), she reached two tour-level finals, one in Melbourne and another at the Cleveland Open. Losing in both, she is still in search of that coveted first WTA Tour title. The good run of form she went through in 2022 did bring her into the Top 30, which she is not currently near following a drop-off of form.
