Once Carlos Alcaraz steps on the court at the 2023 Indian Wells, he won't be sporting just his skills, but also a unique pair of shoes that pay homage to his grandfather's special motto.
The 19-year-old Spaniard returned to the tennis courts recently, and he showed that he didn't forget how to win matches. In the Californian desert, Alcaraz is one of the biggest favorites as he defends points from last year's semifinals. Moreover, he can reach the no. 1 spot in the ATP Rankings, which he described as his main motivation and goal.
Alcaraz's blue and white shoes feature a special engraving of his grandfather's three C's - cabeza, corazón, and cojones - which translates to 'head, heart, and balls'. The motto has been the cornerstone of Alcaraz's tennis journey, and he has even gotten it tattooed on his body after his maiden major win in Flushing Meadows.
But the shoes aren't just a text-based tribute; they also include three icons representing each word of the motto. This unique touch not only makes the shoes stand out but also helps Alcaraz stay true to his values while on the court.
To add to the uniqueness of the shoes, Alcaraz's footwear also features the famous tagline of Nike's "Just do it", but with a twist. The letter 'i' has been replaced with the number '1', symbolizing his remarkable achievement of finishing the 2022 season as the top-ranked player on the ATP Tour.
In the second round of the 2023 Indian Wells, the young Spaniard will start against Thanasi Kokkinakis, who is playing with confidence and scary form.
